Really...You're Surprised at His Answer? [How dumb are you]

Really...we have nothing better to do than be surprised when someone answers a question asked in the way we should expect them to answer it? I was aggravated on my morning drive when every radio station they were discussing Phil Roberson, the patriarch of the family whose daily dealings are chronicled on the show ‘Duck Dynasty’.  He had an interview with GQ (of all magazines) and they asked him about homosexuals/homosexuality and he answered the question he was asked and expounded a bit. Let me qualify his answer with the fact that their show, their family values, their books, shirts, etc. are all based on the Christian principles of the Roberson family. They pride themselves in being devout Christians and living their live according to the teachings of Christ (Bible while exhibit family values in all they do. This being said, no one should be surprised that his answer wasn’t glowing with regard to homosexuality.  I haven’t read his GQ interview yet, I will, but I read an article in Time on this matter and one quote he made, “We never, ever judge someone on who’s going to heaven, hell. That’s the Almighty’s job,” he said, adding, “We just love ’em, give ’em the good news about Jesus—whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists. We let God sort ’em out later, you see what I’m saying?”, is being particularly harped on. What’s the big deal here?

According to scripture homosexuality is sin as are being drunk and senselessly terrorizing/killing folks. When we face God for judgment He won’t put on above another, they are all sin. Why is it that Christians answer questions according to their Christian beliefs they are labelled intolerant, anti-gay, etc.? This was an issue not too long ago for Chic-Fil-A and now for Duck Dynasty…really? How stupid are we that we allow society, the media and some irritated sexual deviants dictate what we can and cannot say and what belief system we can or cannot espouse. Last I checked the 1st amendment didn’t just protect the LGBT community, but it also protects those of us who choose to follow God and share our belief system with those we encounter. Years ago I heard a sermon entitled ‘Persecuted for the Right Reason’ [Shirley Reaves], I think this aptly describes the indefinite suspension of Phil Roberson from the A&E show Duck Dynasty that’s based around his family. Besides, how many of these idiots from GLAAD actually watch his show? But they’re actively harassing any and all advertisers to drop the show because he said what he feels and believes.

I know someone will reply saying he doesn’t like black people either. They may even cite that he said black folk were happy in the pre-civil rights era.   He basically that the black folks he was exposed to lived, world and were nappy like everyone else around him. I think we need to stop persecuting folks like this for standing on their beliefs and stop giving credence to these drama ‘queens’ who make mountains out of molehills and attack everything folks say, twist their words to say something more dramatic than what they actually said. He has a right to say what he said just as they have a right to do what they do. You want us to live and let live, but you won’t practice the same.

I Must Admit…It’s True

I haven’t taken the time to sit down to leave a few words in quite a while. It’s unfortunate that I had to be angered to compose this piece. Teddy makes a great point in this quote. Since my early years, I’ve been a student of the politics of the day. I’ll never forget the surprise on the face of Jerry Hickman as I was describing the layers of government in civics class (and correcting the textbook on at least one occasion). I believe that, while it isn’t perfect, we have the greatest governmental machine in the world. We allow, to a certain extent, the people to choose their leaders, their laws and their fate. No other country in the world allows as many freedoms as are allowed in the United States of America. So my next position will bring pause to some of you. I personally believe we have too many freedoms in this country and, to a certain extent, we allow the people to be involved in too much that they’re uninformed about.

This quote says a great deal, especially when you reflect on those you know who either were vehemently opposed to President Barack Obama and couldn’t tell you why, or those who were staunch supporters and couldn’t tell you what his platform was. I mean I literally heard a woman argue that she didn’t like the president because he sat under the pastorate of Jeremiah Wright and had to know he was racist. She then said her issue was that he was a Muslim and didn’t back down from either when exposed to the contrast between the two, adding that he was an atheist because his father was one. So I guess that made him an Islamic Christian atheist. On the other hand I spoke to a woman who was upwards of 45 years old who admitted that it was her first time voting when the president ran in 2008. She went on to admit that she was only voting for him because she wanted to see a black man as president in her lifetime. I went on to tell her she was dishonoring the lives of those who dies for her to have the right to vote. I am of the mindset that neither of these people deserves the right to vote as they aren’t exercising the spirit of the vote in choosing whoever is best for their community and best for the position they are running.

I was one that argued against the statement that folks were opposed to our current president due to the hue of his epithelial coat. I was living with the notion that we are more intelligent, as a country, than that. However, with the compilation of events dating back to 2007, I must admit…it’s true. We’ve had folks oppose a president in the past and manage to still do what needs to be done for the country. We’ve had members of the senate and congress who didn’t agree with the president and put it aside to make sure the country’s best interest was first. We’ve had men and women in uniform not agree with the commander in chief but still carry out the orders presented to them. However, folks calling the president a liar on national television, governors verbally chastising a grown man in public (complete with the wagging finger) and now because he won reelection, utilizing the primary system set forth in this great country of ours (no supreme court intervention required), you have students burning effigies, signs and causing disturbances on college campuses and secession petitions being filed by some residents of the state of Texas (and over a dozen other states). With over 40,000 Texans signing this petition, I must admit…it’s true. This isn’t even scratching the surface on all of the other disgraceful antics displayed by members of the media, celebrities, sons of presidential opponents, etc that went unmentioned. On this day, I’m convinced that a great deal of the tom foolery allowed to go on with regard to the disrespect shown to the man sitting in the office of president of the United States is due to the his ancestral origin, I must admit…it’s true. When has it been allowed for a school to choose to not display the picture of the sitting president? When has it, or should it be, allowed for someone to lynch an effigy of a sitting president? At no time in American history have we seen a president, sitting or otherwise, disrespected at the level this one has. I, for one, am ashamed that we as a country cannot come together and do what needs to be done because some folks don’t want to follow someone that doesn’t look like them. I’m not saying everyone against him is against him because he’s black (that would be foolish and irresponsible), but I will say there is a contingent that’s making a noise that is wearing a brand new pair of these shoes and yes, they fit nicely, I must admit…it’s true. There are some who may be offended by this as there are others who think the same way but won’t say it.

Let’s be clear, I’m sick of folks thumping the racism card on the table every 10 seconds. I’m normally the last to make a claim of this nature (those who know me know this to be true)but in this case, I must admit…it’s true. It pains me to make this assertion in this case, but if you don’t see it the perhaps you need to take off the rose colored glasses. We, as a country, as a society, and as a people (American people) need to reexamine our relationships, our outlooks and reassess our allegiances. Do we really love our country, or are we for or against a particular person (or party)? Let’s all work together to stand firm for America, regardless of who sits as commander in chief. Respect the office, the man is just there for four more years.

It’s just my opinion, but I’m not wrong.

Princess Boy…For Real?

The other day I was appalled by an interview that was on the Today show. It started like any other one, with a normal looking mother talking about a book she'd written. Then it took a turn when they started focusing on the 5 year old child she had with her. You see Cheryl Kilodavis had written a book about her child, Dyson. Dyson sat beside her, looking like any other cute little 5 year old girl. There was only one problem…she wasn't a 5 year old girl, but a 5 year old boy. This young boy had been dressed in girl's clothing; hair fashioned like a little girl and was exhibiting the mannerisms of a little girl, all with the support and encouragement of his mother. What the hell?!?!?!?! It's one thing for a young man/woman to make a decision in their life that they are homosexual, but for a parent to fashion their son to be gay is preposterous. Then she's exploiting her child by parading him across stages, to television shows, and even wrote a book about it. I know that some will read this post (and possibly my last) and say that I'm a gay basher; that I'm a homophobe, or anything along those lines. What you might want to do is reread this post and my last one before making those assertions. Both exhibit disdain for the same thing; taking advantage of impressionable young people and their sexuality/sexual identity. In this case it's the worst kind, a parent screwing her child's mind up.

Parenting is an awesome responsibility that is bestowed upon us. We are tasked with teaching babies that grow into children that grow into youth everything they need to know in order to live happy, productive lives as adults. In the George Washington case, you have a university faculty and NCAA using the confusion of a post-pubescent young lady to garner headlines for a basketball program that otherwise wouldn't get much press. In this instance you have an idiotic, opportunistic woman who's leading her prepubescent son into utter confusion as she says he's identifying himself sexually as a girl…AT FOUR?!?!?!?! Come on man! This heifer wrote a book about it, parades him from talk show to interview to radio show and even says she desires for parents of other little princess boys to start clubs around the world. Really lady? Really?!?!?! How about you get a job and stop doing this to your kid? What happens when he gets to by 15 and realizes that he's been acting like a sissy to please his mother and really likes girls and wants to be a boy? Who's going to teach him to 'act like a man' then? Or will you simply tell him that he's bowing to societal pressures? If it were up to me your son would be in foster care and you'd be incarcerated for child abuse. No 4 or 5 year old knows anything about whether they are a boy trapped in a girl's body or vice versa; this is simply a deranged woman who already has an older son and wants a daughter.

I'm personally offended at the notion that she is allowed to do this and even more offended that our society has stopped to such a level that we're supporting this ludicrosity by giving her the airtime and print coverage [with encouragement] to do this to her own child. She says it about acceptance; I say BALDERDASH mam and plenty of it. You know what I may have spoken too soon; it is about acceptance. Acceptance of another interview to put on another dog and pony show…acceptance of another deal to write another book to keep the checks coming in…acceptance of another opportunity to profit off of the confusion that you've created in the mid of this poor little boy. Acceptance of anything she can get at the expense of her son's well being. I'm not a gay basher, homophobe or anything of the sort…but let your child make his/her own decision and be a parent to them, not a pimp.

Quit Whining and Face the Firing Squad

I read this article and it bothered me a bit, then it made me downright mad. I'm not one of those who believes that President Obama is chosen by God to be president, nor am I one who believes that everything he does is right, and I'm not even one that believes that he can fix everything that's wrong with this country (in this term or another). I am, however one who believes that when you have a hierarchy, you follow it; whether you agree with it or not. The article I previously referenced can be found on the politics daily website. It tells of a Lt Colonel in the Army who is refusing his deployment to Afghanistan because he doesn't believe that President Obama is an American citizen and therefore not qualified to be the POTUS ergo NOT his commander in chief and he refuses to follow his orders. How stupid is this guy? For those who might not understand military ranking structure, this guy is only a couple of notches below a general, so it's not like he's someone who's been in a week. Actually for him it's been 18 years. Lt Colonel Terry Lakin is a bonafied idiot!!! (in three languages) I know there are those who say, he's standing up for what he believes and those who says good for him. Having served my time in the US Army (and I'd serve again if I had to) I believe this idiot should be prosecuted to fullest extent of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, I believe inmate #37698543 sounds a lot better than Colonel.

Let me elucidate. When you join any branch of the military your opinion ceases to matter (when you are in uniform) your feelings cease to exist (when you are in uniform) your desires aren't important (when in uniform). You role, goal and purpose is to follow the orders given and carry them out to the best of your ability. If you don't want to do that then don't join!!! If you want to sit around the house, at happy hour or on your personal time and talk bad about the president, every member of congress, and the secretary of defense that's your right, but when you're at work, you work. This moronic imbecile is a doctor no less and commands other doctors and nurses. He ought to be made an example of and treated much like you would someone who abandoned their post on the battlefield. There are soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen over there who could really use his expertise, but he refuses to lend it to them because of an ignorant, petty, personal vendetta that is truly an exhibition of his idiocy. I have the utmost respect for all of our servicemen and women who are putting their lives on the line for my freedom and believe that those who stand in their way, hinder or harm them in any way should receive swift, harsh punishment (preferably VERY painful). If he was really serious about the President not being qualified to be his commander in chief he would resign his commission and leave the Army. No, he won't do that because he's not a real 'birther' he's using a convenient arguement to show his true color...yellow!!! He's a coward who's afraid to go to Afghanistan because he's afraid of what he might ancounter there. Newsflash Larkin...every day you went to work over the past year you've been following the orders of the commander in chief. IDIOT!!!

That being said, a message to all "birthers", you are in idiot and you need a life. Let me help you get over this issue. There are laws and requirements for any man or woman who runs for president of these here United States of America. There are committees and panels assembled to assure that these folks meet these requirements. Many folks on these panels and committees have done it before for another presidential, senatorial, or other candidate. They've reviewed his credentials, approved his credentials, and the people of this country elected him. Sit down, shut up and wait until 2012. Then you can try to vote for someone else. I'm sick of hearing your sissy whining. As always…

Rules? Who Needs Rules?

While watching the news last night I came across a story that caught my interest. I’m not sure if you’re heard it or not, but Taylor Pugh has been embroiled in a very public dispute with the Mesquite ISD for the past three months. His rights have been violated, he’s being stripped of his individuality and his self esteem is being crushed. At least that’s the story that the idiots who are raising him will tell. Taylor is four years old and doesn’t want to cut his hair. Admittedly, I believe that kids ought to be encouraged not to follow the crowd. They ought to be taught not to bow to peer pressure and to forger their own paths. But come on!!! When are people taking things too far? The Mesquite ISD has a dress code in place that’s prevalent in most school districts in America. Boy’s hair must be out of their eyes, no longer than below the earlobes or the collar in the back. It’s not only appropriate, but commonplace for school districts to say that hairstyles, “designed to attract attention to the individual or to disrupt the orderly conduct” aren’t allowed. Not to mention a hairdo likely to get you kissed by another boy…that would start a whole other battle.

These parents a testament to my belief that people ought to have to go through a training class and get licensed to have kids. Initially I thought this was some over-permissive, wimpy parents who just wanted to let him do what he wanted to do.; then they panned the camera over and showed the dad, mom and some other moron they brought to the school with them. They looked like a punk rock band threw up. Pierced eyes, lips, noses, and those huge quarter sized holes in their ears. Then it became apparent to me what it was. Not over-permissive parents, but parents who are crazy as hell and think the world ought to bend to their taste and desires rather than deal with the society in which we live.

These morons argued that their son is an individual and he wanted to keep his hair long. I bet he wants to eat Cocoa Puffs for dinner every night and never take a shower or change clothes. HE’S 4 YEARS OLD!!! It’s time out for these parents who want to be friends with their kids. Your kids should not be your friends!!! If you raise a child throughout their life and not once have they uttered the words, “I Hate you”, “I’ll be glad when I can move out of here”, “Why was I even born into this family?” or something of this sort then you haven’t done your job as a parent. You can’t effectively parent and never have your child disagree with you. By the way, for those of you that are worried because you’ve never heard your child say any of these…it’s okay; that may just mean that you’ve instilled enough fear in them that they have better sense than to let you hear it [don’t claim it if it’s not for you].

In all seriousness, they are interrupting more than just this kid’s education. I have issue with the district providing private one on one tutoring for this kid since November. They should have sent him home and told his parents to keep him there until they could comply with the district’s policy. By giving him this treatment they are taking resources away from the kids whose parents assured that they were in compliance with the rules. Aside from that they’re teaching him that he can pick and choose which rules he wants to follow in life. School is there for more than the education that is taught from the books. There are the social skills, playing well with others, boundaries, respect for authority oh yea, and following rules.

Newsflash Mr. Pugh and Ms. Taylor…if you don’t want your kid following the rules in the public schools you can send him to private school or home school him, your choice. No matter where you go in society, or what you do there are rules that need to be followed. These idiots need to learn the difference between being stupid and supporting your kid. While they finally braided his hair to comply with the school district’s rules [after saying his scalp would bleed if they did], he looks even more like a girl with the French braids than he did with the hair long. Who wants to sign this petition to require a license before becoming a parent?

Was it a Waste?

We all recall the turn of events that shaped national headlines for weeks in late 2007. We all recall the busses converging on rural Louisiana to protest the treatment of 6 young men labeled the ‘Jena 6’. These young men [Bryant Purvis, Corwin Jones, Mychal Bell, Jesse Ray Beard, Robert Bailey, and Theo Shaw] were charged with attempted murder for assaulting a lone white school mate [Justin Barker] in response to the hanging of a noose on a tree in the schoolyard. Many of us have read the stories and know the background of the situation. However, I was looked upon as deranged when I asked a question about this situation. While everyone was rallying, organizing to go to Jena, and protesting the injustices, I was asking questions. I wanted to know a bit more about these young men and their histories. I wanted to find out a bit more about Justin Barker as well.

Historically, we have been a people who reacted on emotion rather than information. Case and point, the Tawana Brawley case that propelled Sharpton into the national spotlight. This turned out to be a lie. The stripper and the Duke Lacrosse team…no comment. You see, we have too many folks who cry wolf and we keep jumping to their aide before we find out the whole story. The actions of these young men since the whole rally, protests, etc. has shown me that I was right in the first place. My personal opinion was that they were properly charged with attempted murder. I don’t care what they hung from a tree, to have 6 people jump on one, you have the propensity to kill them (regardless of the race of the individuals involved) therefore, even without the presence of weapons, the charge was adequate in my opinion. However, somebody thought it wasn’t right so they protested.

Then, after the charges were reduced and everything was resolved they were paraded around the country as heroes. They went to the BET image awards, several talk shows, etc, it was one big party. It was almost as if their actions were being lauded as proper. The result of which is one of the young men moving to Dallas to live with a relative, who played for the Cowboys, and trying to run over a white boy at his new high school with a car, because he made him mad. They gave him probation and community service. Another one was later charged with assault for another fight he was involved in. Oh, by the way he had also been charged with trespassing for another incident he was involved in. Another one was charged with simple battery, simple criminal damage to property less than $500 and simple assault. He was given a suspended sentence and house arrest. He also had 13 disciplinary actions against him at school (recommended for expulsion). They later suspended his probation and allowed him to move to Connecticut to use Jena 6 defense funds to pay his tuition at a private school. Then you have the moron of the year who was arrested for leaving the jurisdiction while on bail and speeding in an uninsured vehicle. Later, there was the shoplifting, resisting arrest, and simple assault charges that were levied on Christmas Eve.

Some will argue that these young men got into this trouble because of the attitude toward them in the Jena community. This can be refuted by the fact that several of these young men’s troubles continued when they let the small Louisiana town. Others will say that the pressure of this whole situation was too much for them to handle. To this I say, as I often do, that we all have to deal with the decisions we make in life. They decided to work as a group (of six) to fight, and possibly maim or kill, one classmate and therefore need to deal with what goes with that. Then, to further exhibit the intelligence, or lack thereof of this group of miscreants, Mychal Bell uses a .22 caliber gun to try and kill himself. When I heard this I said, “What?!?!?! Why didn’t he just hit himself with rocks?” How stupid can you be to use such a small gun to do the deed? Being from the country he had to know that he wouldn’t be successful. To further exhibit his stupidity, he shot himself in the chest. What?!?!?!? He didn’t want death, he wanted attention. Nothing more! All reports state that it was a non life threatening injury. He’s shown himself to be an ignorant coward who misses the spotlight so much so that he’ll do anything to get back into it.
By the way, I’m also sick of black folk using the excuse, “If it had been a white boy…” How about this…how about we don’t commit crimes or put ourselves in a position to be maliciously prosecuted? How about that? It’s time out for us to justify our actions, or errors in judgment, by the fact that others are getting away with it. That’s crap and we need to hold ourselves to a higher standard than that. We can do right, we can walk the path, and we can be role models for your own kids and clean up our own communities.

What took place with these young men in Jena was a travesty on many levels. These young men weren’t treated fairly by the legal system, but no in the way that you’re thinking. We live in a society that levies penalties on its citizens for their actions, or infractions of the laws that are in place. What we have effectively told these guys is they were right to beat their classmate to a pulp with a 6 to 1 ratio. What we have told them is that they are above the law, and many of them are living like they are. What we told them is that if we protest, make noise and scare some folk we can get out of trouble, even if we are wrong. I don’t care if some Asian kid, white kid, Hispanic kid, or any other ethnicity got away with it. I was raised with the mindset, don’t put yourself in a situation you aren’t willing to suffer the consequences for. Yes, they should have been upset about the noose in the tree. Yes they should have been upset about the other events that took place in their community. However, none of that justifies one student being assaulted by 6 at the same time. They chose this path and should have suffered some consequences for their actions.

However, our community lauded their actions and treated them as heroes. Now we see the result. Had I been one of the ‘Jena 6’ my mother would not have allowed the parading across the country from show to show, event to event these young men did. They were wrong for what they did and should have suffered the consequences for their actions. Since they didn’t, and haven’t for consequent actions, they will continue to act in a manner that is above the law and outside of the parameters of our society. We created this monster, now we’ll have to wait to see how it looks as it grows up. Don’t get me wrong, they can change, should they choose to make different decisions, but based on present actions and immediate past decisions, I don’t see it.

It’s just my opinion, I Pray I’m Wrong.
